International Women’s Day 2018

WOMAN – The beautiful creation of God! The angel on earth makes our life a wonderful experience altogether. Imagining life without a woman is quite difficult, be it a mother, a sister, a spouse, a teacher, a daughter and many other such roles which every woman performs with love and care for people around them working selflessly. They shake the cradle with one hand and the whole earth with the other hand. The fact that all the great people in the world are born from the womb of a woman and it is a woman from whom those great people have taken their initial teachings. And that is the reason they deserve all the respect and love from us.  And that is why women’s day is celebrated with so much enthusiasm and it has spread throughout the world. It is believed widely that God could not be present everywhere, so to fill this heavenly difference in everyone’s life, he made WOMAN!

Woman’s day is celebrated all around the world on 8th of March and is celebrated with even more zeal every year for the past 3 years in our Institute. Many Professors and Students spoke their heart out on the importance of these angels in our lives and the roles that they play each day and the influences that they make in our lives. Our Honourable director Mrs. Smita Shukla Spoke something that was indeed an eye-opener for everyone that the percentage of female students passing academically is observed to be higher than that of male students but then if we compare the same while we are at our workplace, it’s observed that the whole scenario takes a drastic change just because women choose family over their career which is indeed a respectable and a difficult decision practically and had they not sacrificed their jobs, they could have achieved better things in life for sure. Our honourable MMS co-ordinator Mrs. Aruna Deshpande also shared her views  and also gave out these message to all women that they should take their own decisions in their lives regarding education, career, and other such crucial decisions and also emphasized on the fact that Education alone doesn’t qualify a person as a rational human being, it’s the nature of the emotional quotient of the person that makes them so ,and this behavioral trait is naturally present in women. Our respected Placement Officer Mrs. Kavita Mishra Pandey shared her experience and urged that women be treated equally and that the roles which each woman executes balancing her work life and personal life should be appreciated and respected because unlike men who mostly only focus on their job-related work, a woman is the one who has to take care of her whole family and simultaneously performs her duties at her workplace which is indeed commendable.

Our respected professor  Mr. Javed kalangade also shared his own experience pertaining to his mother that how she managed to raise the family and her children on her own and who never asked for help from any of her relatives when her husband was no more and proved everyone what women are capable of and that the hidden strength which a woman posses, is something out of this world. Likewise, other professors Mr. Rakesh Malusare, Mr. Ashish Hattangadi , Ms. Radha Iyer, Mr. Najeeb Syed, Ms. Sushmita Mukherji, Mr. Abhijeet Rawal, Ms. Megha Bansal, Ms. Kavle ma’am and few students like Shrinivas Panchal, Bhavesh Dixit, Shubham Bhosale, Sumeet Rajput, Aishwarya More and also our non-teaching staff shared their experiences and expressed their heart out for this selfless being, some did so by reciting poems to some sharing their experiences right from their birth. And the celebration was concluded by cutting a delicious cake and appreciating all the women present with roses.

Everyone knows what women are capable of but still we come across instances wherein sometimes they are not treated equal to men and are sometimes not respected for the work that they do for people selflessly, are often harassed at workplace and are not paid at par compared to their male counterpart performing similar roles and also the struggle that each woman has to undergo is often ignored. If we all take a vow and start respecting women for their sacrifices and the daily struggle that they go through selflessly and start rightfully accrediting them for the things that they deserve, there would never be inequality against women and only then, we shall truly cherish and celebrate women’s day.

“An Overview on Stock Market”, by MMS student

A session was conducted on “Overview on Stock Markets”. This time it was not any guest lecture, instead, the session was lead by current FYMMS student of ADMI, Nilesh Shendre who have the thorough knowledge of stock markets which he wanted to share with his ADMI friends & educate them.

In his session, Nilesh covered the important questions that usually arise when we decide to invest in stocks like; What is Stock Market, Why to invest in stocks, When to buy, How much to buy, When to sell, Need of brokers, How & When share price rise or fall, NSE, BSE, NSDL, CDSL, etc. He also compared stock market scenario in olden days with the market scenario today. He introduced everyone to some of the basic financial terms necessary to understand stock markets which included Market Capitalization, Earning per share, PE Ratio, Volume, Open-High-Low-Close, Return on Equity, Current Ratio. He also demonstrated how to read & analyze which company is best to invest by focusing on key aspects like, ideally the company we want to invest in should be a zero-debt company. But if the company has debts, then it should have 3 times more cash than the debts. Also, the brand value of the company defines the strength of the company.

He explained that any person with the basic knowledge of stocks, mathematics & a bit of common sense can invest in stocks & with experience one can become an expert. There are so many companies in the market where we can invest but we have to be aware as we have to select the best companies from the worst ones. A truly significant message he conveyed that, “In the stock market, we don’t just have to survive but also we have to prosper”.

As Nilesh has immense knowledge of stock market and investments he has made it a key towards his success as he himself with his friend Harshal launched their own Start-up named, FinFreedom. Its goal is to promote Financial Education, teach basics of investing especially to the teenagers to secure their future & to make them owner in Economy (by its growth) rather than just being an ordinary consumer.

The students really experienced a wonderful insight into the world of stock markets, all thanks to Nilesh as he shared his valuable knowledge with others so that all can know what he knows. It was a deep learning for all. This is how ADMI students work towards updating their knowledge & skills & we hope this method of educating each other continues in future too.

How to build career in Finance Specialization

Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute this time had a pleasure to welcome a very enthusiastic person, Mr. Tushar Sen who is the CEO of Dongrila and alumni of Sydenham College having more than 15 years of experience in money and capital markets. He influenced the students’ minds by giving deep insights on how to build their profile & by explaining the importance of finance certifications, projects, and social work.

Mr. Sen emphasized to focus on Content & Aptitude because the more knowledge and strong aptitude you have, the more you can discuss and interact with people and gradually build your network. He also touched on some of the financial terms & concepts like the Financial cycle, GDP, Interest rate, Inflation, rates. To know your potential & area of interest, he informed the students to make the list of companies they want to be in & then understand the sector in which they are interested.

We learn various concepts and gain a lot of knowledge from the professors during the lectures but their guidance throughout the course is equally important to build our career. So, Mr.Sen encouraged the students to utilize the valuable guidance from the professors. If you look at the reality of corporate, it is full of hurdles and competition, but once you are into it with strong determination & objectives for your career you can definitely rise above everyone. For that one must improvise their skills and work on the profile. And during MBA also you should have objectives not just for your placements but for your entire life to taste the success.

The session was basically a talk & discussion rather than a usual lecture. And this discussion led to the exploration of corporate reality & finance world which accelerated the minds of the students to plan more & learn more. While concluding the session Mr. Sen delivered a strong message that; “The job is done, only when the job is actually done”, which really defines the significance of hard work & consistency.

Guest Talk on Entrepreneurship

Recently ADMI Students experienced a joyful blast from the past, as our very own alumnus of ADMI from 2002 batch Mr. Makarand Patil (Entrepreneur & Consulting Director at BiG Strategic Management Consultants) visited the Institute, not as a student but this time as a guest speaker. He expressed his entire journey in ADMI & also shared his inspirational success story with the students.

Mr. Patil created an atmosphere encompassed by inspiration, innovation, and ambition. A strong teaching by Mr. Patil is that “Wherever is the need, there is a business”. Just think what is more important to start a business; money, power or emotions? No, what is more, vital is the idea for the business; as it is rightly said that ‘An idea can change your life’. To rationalize this statement, Mr. Patil shared a thought by Mr. Vithal Kamat that “Idea is the currency” & that’s why an innovative business idea is more important than money. If one wants to be successful then he should follow his passion & work on it with strong commitment. He emphasizes that one should have more plans in life rather than depending completely only on one.

His goal of becoming an entrepreneur urged him to start various successful businesses in the areas of Real estate, Investment banking, Smart city consulting, Fashion, E-commerce in the form of his online apps (My OmNamo App, Chintu App), Media & Entertainment & a lot more. Mr. Makarand Patil and his better half Mrs. Prajakta Patil who is also an alumnus of ADMI worked together hand-in-hand and are soaring into more success with strong determination and innovation. Thanks to Mr. Makarand Patil for being the part of this Institute and an inspiration to all the management students, especially ADMI Students. Your presence and your thoughts fostered the minds of the students and influenced them to do better in life. Now whenever we will look at a successful business, we can make out that someone once thought of a courageous innovative and captivating idea which resulted in this successful business. So finally, Be innovative to be an entrepreneur!

Standardising  Hygiene Evolution (S.H.E)

“Periods”, “Menstruation”, these are some of those topics which many people in our Indian society still hesitate to discuss freely in public. It is still considered as a social taboo. In order to change this type of mentality, Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute, under the guidance and support from Smt. Poonam Mahajan (Member of Parliament, National President-BJYM), has taken an initiative through their campaign S.H.E(Standardising Hygiene Evolution) to create a social awareness on menstrual hygiene and to say ‘NO’ to all the misconceptions regarding menstruation. Smt. Poonam Mahajan delivered a wonderful speech to students and she very well managed to explain to the audience that menstruation is a natural process faced by every woman and should not be considered as a negative thing. She encouraged all the students to come forward, contribute something to the society and set an example for others. She also assured that she will provide sanitary napkins vending machine to the institute. Respected, Registrar of the University of Mumbai, Mr.Dinesh Kamble also shared his views on this critical issue, promised that he will provide restroom facility to all girls studying in the institute and support the cause. A very enthusiastic personality, Umair Shaikh who is FYBMS student of ADMI conveyed the importance and necessity of menstrual education very impressively. Despite being a boy, his approach towards this issue was worth applauding. A very humble faculty, Mr.Rakesh Malusare, and his team worked collectively to conduct this S.H.E program successfully! Our Director Mrs.Smita Shukla thanked the guests and everyone by giving her vote of thanks.

5 months Journey in ADMI as a MMS Student

Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies a.k.a. ADMI is well known for its quality education and teaching. ADMI mainly emphasizes the growth and development of its students so that they can flourish as successful personalities in future.

First thought before joining ADMI was that, how will this institute help us to improve? We were completely in a bewildered state of mind. The fact that ADMI is a department of Mumbai University raised our expectation level even further. And with no doubts, we can say that ADMI has very well turned our expectations into reality. The four-day induction program, E-Cell program and all the motivational speeches of our Faculty members were the initial reasons which convinced us that we have chosen the right institute and we are in safe hands. Thanks to our revered seniors and all faculty members for organizing such an encouraging induction programme for us. Induction programme helped us to acquire a lot of valuable learning and important lessons for life from great personalities like Mr. Neil Sequeira, Mr. Aughi Dalton, Mr. Kartik, Mrs. Shrivastava, Mr. T.G.Krishnan and also by our Alumni. These lessons will definitely boost our morale and evolve us into significant personalities.

The knowledge that we gained from our respected Director Dr. Smita Shukla Ma’am, FYMMS faculty members; Dr. Aruna Deshpande Ma’am, Mr. Javed Kalangade Sir, Mr. Abhiraj Shivdas Sir, Miss Naina Salve Ma’am, Donna Ma’am, Marathe Sir, Bhutani Sir and Mr. Ashish Hattangadi Sir is worth appreciating. These faculties guided us throughout our 5 months journey; motivated us to work in teams by bestowing us with practical knowledge from time to time and by conducting various activities like presentations, case studies, role-plays, etc. These golden lessons have assisted us each time to set the bar high and elevate our confidence level. The wisdom which we have procured from them will always be preserved in our minds and we’ll certainly try to implement it in our daily life. Various student committees of ADMI also have been constantly assisting the institute to excel in all possible ways.

Placement lecture organized every Saturday by our Placement Officer, Kavita Madam has influenced many aspects of our personalities. During these placement lectures, many dignitaries and our alumni have shared their valuable knowledge and experience, motivated us to bring out the best in us and prosper in life. Their lectures were based on topics like Strategies to attract recruiters, How to choose your specialization, An overview of capital markets, Employee engagement through technology, International Banking and Challenges, Empowering Digital India with Infrastructure, Gearing up automation, Marketing Public Services, Guest talk in association with US Consulate, Effective Resume writing & many more. Biggest plus point was the CEO Conclave where we received an opportunity to interact and learn from many successful CEOs. These sessions have helped us to enhance our personalities and strengthen our skills to tackle the intricate corporate world.

Easy accessibility and abundant availability of required books in the library facilitated us during our exams. We feel immense pleasure, calmness, and satisfaction in the serenity of the campus filled with elegance, surrounded by greenery and the presence of a beautiful lake at the rear of the Institute.

With all the hectic schedules of presentations, assignments, traveling, we still managed to coordinate in groups and prepared ourselves consistently for our exams. This 5 months journey in ADMI is absolutely packed with tremendous learning, knowledge, and satisfaction. In ADMI, we have not only prospered as an individual but we have also thrived as a performer! This journey is undoubtedly going to continue and expand for the coming months while we as students will also emerge and shine in all aspects in order to glorify the name of Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies.

MUNIJAN 2017 “Leveraging Technology For Rural Education”

We first heard about Munijan event from our seniors and respected faculty members as one of the prestigious event held in Mumbai University. It is a social business model competition and it is held every year on Gandhi Jayanti. Different institutes of Mumbai University participate in this competition and top 10 institutes out of them are selected for the final presentation round. Our confidence helped us to participate in this grand event.

The theme for MUNIJAN 2017: “Leveraging technology for rural education” brought many ideas in mind but not all of them seemed feasible.  After doing some research, we found several reasons for the illiteracy of children in rural India and hence decided on an idea that emphasised on educating not just the children but also the women and farmers. Our idea could be summed up in few words as:

“No Saraswati is stopped from going to school, No Lakshmi has to beg for money to her husband, And no farmer has a reason to commit suicide”

It was a fabulous day of our life when our team got shortlisted among top 4 colleges out of top 10 participants. It gave us huge confidence and we started working with great enthusiasm to make the best out of this opportunity. Under extraordinary guidance of Prof. Naina Salve ma’am and all other respected faculty members we design our business plan.

Finally the grand finale day, i.e. 2nd October arrived.  The presence of our fellow colleagues and teachers gave us a lot of confidence. Our presentation went very well. It was followed by Question and Answer session. It felt like a battlefield. The panelists threw many questions towards us. We remained calm and confidently answered each and every question  asked by the panelists. Every team in the hall came up with an unique idea and we got to learn a lot from them. When the results were announced, “TEAM SHARDA” was declared as Runner up. Our efforts paid off and victory was staring right at us!

We thank all the members of ADMI and respected faculty members for their guidance and blessings. It would have been an uphill task without their help!

We pray to the almighty to give all of us the strength and courage to overcome the challenges and achieve impossible heights!!!

We would like to conclude with the amazing quote by Mahatma Gandhi ji, which is quite inspiring!

“Be the Change that you want to see in the world”
